Estimate Daily Calories and Portions

Important: This tool provides an educational starting point. It does not diagnose illness or replace individualized advice from your veterinarian.

Use the Result as a Starting Point

The calculation uses resting energy requirements and a selected life-stage factor. Food labels, treats, dental chews, table food, medical conditions, pregnancy, nursing, growth rate, and activity can change the correct amount. Ask your veterinarian to set a target weight and calorie plan when weight loss, growth, or illness is involved.

Use the Exact Food’s Calorie Density

Calories per cup vary widely between foods, so the number from the package matters more than the cup size alone. Enter the current body weight and reserve part of the daily total for treats, dental chews, table scraps, or food used during training.

Measure the suggested amount for one to two weeks, then review body condition and weight. Puppies, pregnant dogs, very active dogs, and dogs with medical conditions need individualized advice rather than a standard multiplier.

Adjust Portions Gradually

Change the daily amount in small steps rather than making a large correction after one weigh-in. Reduced appetite, rapid weight loss, repeated digestive upset, or difficulty chewing should be discussed with a veterinarian instead of being managed only by changing portions.
